Associate Medical Director – Immunology – Onsite in San Juan, Capistrano, CA

The Associate Medical Director for Immunology, in collaboration with the Medical Director, will provide leadership for the Immunology Department at the Nichols Institute in San Juan Capistrano, one of Quest Diagnostics’ several Esoteric Laboratory centers of excellence. In addition, the Associate Medical Director will consult with healthcare providers, other Medical Directors, senior Laboratory Management, and various Subspecialty teams throughout the Quest Diagnostics enterprise with regard to Immunology testing.

Clinical Immunology Fellowship Position

The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine offers a 2-year fellowship training program in clinical (medical laboratory) immunology. The fellowship provides broad experience in diagnostic laboratory immunology, and is accredited by the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) Committee on Postgraduate Educational Programs (CPEP). Fellows in the program rotate through ARUP Laboratories, the Histocompatibility and immunogenetics Laboratory at the University of Utah Health, and the Public Health Laboratory at the Utah Department of Public Health (UDPH). The rotations at ARUP Laboratories cover training in all areas of clinical diagnostic immunology as outlined in the CPEP essentials for immunology training. Fellowship training includes clinical service, laboratory administration, and research and teaching. Fellows have the opportunity to participate in research activities with the faculty and staff in the Department of Pathology and the ARUP Institute for Clinical and Experimental Pathology. This training program satisfies the requirements for the Diplomate in Medical Laboratory Immunology board exam, DMLI(ASCP) offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification. The program is currently accepting applications until November 15, 2025, for one fellow position with a start date of July 1, 2026.

Clinical Laboratory Immunology Medical Director
The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and ARUP Laboratories is inviting applications from individuals with a strong interest in building an academic career in Clinical Laboratory Immunology. Applicants should hold either an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degree with board certification or board eligibility in Clinical Laboratory Immunology.

ARUP is a comprehensive, high-complexity reference laboratory that serves a diverse clientele. Our clients include over half of the nation’s university teaching hospitals, children’s hospitals, major commercial laboratories, military and government facilities, and numerous community hospitals. As a result, our laboratory receives a wide variety of specimen types and testing requests. We provide an extensive range of testing options, encompassing both traditional techniques and specialized, esoteric testing in the field of laboratory diagnostics.

The successful candidate must have experience in clinical diagnostic testing as related to clinical immunology. Primary responsibilities include clinical test result interpretation and reporting; quality control and assurance; laboratory test development; teaching and training of fellows and residents; and committee service. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical and academic background appropriate to their level of training and experience, as well as excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Academic rank and compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments.
